ascolta
Tillana, Rajastan, Kalavati e Africa. Ha aggiunto che
se il suo show ci è piaciuto bene altrimenti
non gliene può fregare di meno. W l'onestà,
ma poi non sono fatti così tutti i musicisti
Jazz? A loro piace suonare solo per sè stessi,
che ci piaccia oppure no!!!
Quanto ti ha influenzato musicalmente la tua
famiglia?
Mia madre mi ha influenzato molto. suono grande
musica grazie all'influenza di mia madre. lei è
la mia maestra di musica.
E' una cantante vero?
Oh sì, lei è incredibile!!! e anche mia
nonna, mio fratello. La mia famiglia proviene da una
famiglia di musicisti.
Hai degli artisti che ti hanno ispirato quando
hai iniziato a fare musica?
Certo naturalmente, molti suonatori di tabla. Mia madre,
molti cantanti in India e un sacco di musica Boolywood.
Poi ho ascoltato molta motown e anche musica classica
e dopo un pò di jazz. Concludendo per lo più
musica classica indiana, Boolywood and folk.
What inspires you now musically?
It's what have been inspiring me when i started to play
music. I relized that music has no form, no name. I
realized this because of my spiritual teacher Ranjiit
Maraj, grazie a lui because of him
Im relaxed. Im not acheiving anything in music, I dont
care. in music ther's nothing to achieve. If music is
giving me a trouble is not correct, it should give me
peace and that's what inspires me. To gain
my own music and my own sound and this inspires me,
to be honest to music. This is the inspiration. It's
not inspiration coming from any human person.
What has changed, if something has changed,
from the beginning till now in your music and in your
life?
I understood....from my spiritual teacher that
is not a big deal. You got to achieve in life ehy you
are here!!! This is a big achievement rather than being
good musician and fighting for media and more attention
and more popularity. For what I have Im very happy and
this makes me play music really strong. I dont worry
about some people liking my music, people
dont like it, criticize it. I play
what is honest for me. Music is a vehicle for me. It's
not the end. End is when I realize why Im here. My teacher
tells me that, if I fulfilled that then music..gone
to will be happy to any person. Music is not
everything. Im not the slave of music. Music and me
are together, we are musicians as well. We are not slaves
of eachother. It's open not close. Have I to do this
for somebody? to please somebody??Nooo! I dont care,
Ive nothing to achieve.
How do you see Asian Music Underground?
Underground? underground is metro, is really down:)
Ive a lot of fans from Asian but I dont think them are
the city trend musicians. Thats the problem!!! Like
Nitin, Talving, they call me the mentor. i started all
this. Their musical life is longer because they are
musicians. But many musicians are just fashion and walk
with the society wearing jeans with tags in their ass
looking for a dealer. this is just fashion.
What is in fashion will go. what is not fashion will
stay. So I cannot say if it's bad or good. i just say
if it's honest it will stay. Im doing what them do for
a long time in Indian music and Im still around.
How have you felt when they've named you as their mentor?
They're very honest about this. they're very loving.
This is inspiration also. Ok they're doing bad
or...that's not the point. everybody is trying
his capability. If it's working for them it's ok. But
dont follow track because the media would push
you up and then bring you down. it's all about money.
Good music is important, if music is strong, powerful,
I see im not as slave as powerful, people will
like it, people will speak and they will come! The best
promotion I get. Of course media promoting also very
good but it has to be proper translation, correct. proper
not only egoistic/selfish. For I want to do this to
become popular/reach popularity.
your music is modern. have u choosen modern because
you like this sound or to involve young people ti listen
to?
My music was modern since I was born. I like this, my
mother does the same. Im not there to please. Im to
please myself. Music is self-fulfilment. Im not doing
anything. the power inside is doing everything. im always
from this. It's doing but Im not doing it to be in the
charts or anything. People has misunderstood this because
they think im a drummer professionist and this is in
the last. If you are a singer and good looking is more
easy even if you are not a good musician, is more easy.
There's not quality mayb?
Yess is more appearance and not quality. That's why
Im coming to this point just to say that's not the quality.
This is how the world works so Ive not to fault for
this. Im doing my music, my original music that is Trilok
Gurtu music!! Ive called it Boolywood Jazz. Some people
like jazz, some boolywood...it's just words, is nothing..it's
words that go on in the air..go on..bla-bla, and people
give it so much importance. Big deal you know. So this
is Trilok Gurtu music, my music and if you dont like
it I really, really dont care.
You have collaborated with many artists. How
these collaborations start?
It was basically becuse I was doing mostly different
music in the market. They said "We would like to
play with Trilok" I agree to do this and everything
gone. I dont play normal. I do drummer music different
then all, again good or bad, but Im not imitating anybody
and if it's imitation is of myself.
You collaborated even with Robert Miles. You
know he's from a place close to this town?
Yeah I know, I know.
How was to work with him?
Very nice, very good. he's very intelligent sound men
and a good DJ, he has an ear for music.
It's summer time for festivals. Do you prefer festivals
or gigs?
Festivals..Jazz Festivals. Ive played in Glastonbury,
Reading, Perugia. Everywhere big festivals. In the festivals
the atmosphere is different. Other people are playing
so you got to be short and professional. You cant make
mistakes.
You've travelled a lot, which is the best places
you've seen?
I dont want to discriminate. It's all good or something
is really bad as some industrial places. Sardegna, in
Italy, is fantastic. In India some places, in Norway
fantastic. Some places in Italy as I told you
Sardegna on the coast in Langhe. Ive a lot
of friends in Langhe, wonderful. Spain great as well.
What do you listen to for chilling out?
My own self.
What are new projects?
I do something with orchestra and a project that I did
in Africa musicians from Mali. I stayed with them with
no light without anything. It was a great experience
and I do a duet with Du Holland. and
i do a very big project in scotland with the "back
pipes snear". I opened a big hall. So I do a lot
of production and not only play gigs but I do production.
I opened the big festival in Copenaghen "Asian
Music Festival". I put things together, I make
bridges.
Not barriers!!!
Yess.
When have you started this tour?
I started in June.
When will you finish it?
At the end of July.
And then?
Then I'll go to India.
And what are you going to play tonight?
I'm going to play from my last record "Broken
Rythms" with orchestra, well not orchestra but
the same idea.
